My Dear Mitt Romney, I am Sid Harth.

My Dear Mitt Romney,

I am Sid Harth.

I agree with you. What’s the point not to? You are a businessman. You know (sometimes, more than the other times) the major problems, in plural.

Where does this morality in your scripted speech come from? Your words, not mine. I write better.

“moral commitment to help every American help himself.”

Now that we have squared with each others moral compass, sort of. I got it. U, I am sorry to say, ain’t.

The whole debate, I mean, specifically, the GOP debates, I watched every single one, most reluctantly but religiously. Not once any single contestant, ever said anything nice about you, your sordid past in Private Equity, included, your youthful hoodlum status, included, your political punditry or lack thereof, included, ever said anything close enough to identify as a moral person with fear for God’s reprisal in you as a person, not as a candidate for GOP presidential hopeful.

Charity begins at home, so does morality. How moral should president Barack Obama ought to be, in your parsed statement?

A little bit? A whole lot? Extremely pious, closer to God, as a living and breathing saint? I ask you, politely.

I am patient. Please come out swinging. I take as well as I give. Blows as well as blessing. Your choice.

“without any new proposals.” That is the usual Romney. The only good thing about it is if he doesn’t say anything at least he doesn’t flip-flop for a change. The more he says the deeper in the hole he will go. By November he will be a complete joke. It is not too late to find someone capable of handling the job.

” Romney: Fixing U.S. economy a moral imperative ” So does this mean he will tell Congress today to start investing in the Mid Class by stop giving all of the Tax Payers Money to the Corporation and the Rich ( The Non Job Creators ) or is this just another BS line to say he’s talking about the Economy ? But I do have to say that it is funny that he is talking about Morals seeing that he has none and his God lives on a planet called ” Kobol ” I guess on his Planet taking from the Poor and giving to the Rich is Moral !!! OMG the GOP are Aliens from the planet Kobol !!!! Quick call Will Smith , Sigourney Weaver and Arnold Schwarzenegger the country has a Job from them !!! I would have said to call William Shatner ,but we need our Priceline Commercials !!!!

The very definition of a leader is “someone that people want to follow”. Does anyone really want to follow romney , a man completely void of class, absent new ideas, who has been unemployed himself for 10 years. Been running for Prez for 6 years and only 25 percent of his own people like him and will only vote for him while holding their noses
  • Jim Erwin · American University

So, has Mitt talked to Boehner, McConnell, Ryan or any of the other Tea Party congressmen about this moral commitment? In addition, why doesn’t he just tell us the secret to immediate, full employment. This reminds me of Nixon’s secret plan to end the Vietnam War.
  • Patrick Stewart · Contact Center Admin. at Lenovo

Hey mitt, what are your plans to stimulate the economy? I hear a lot of criticism and no plans. Why should we trust you. You are another person that will raise taxes on the middle class and lower thhe taxes of the rich. No mitt no how. i will stick with Obama at least I can somewhat trust him.
  • Bart Anderson · Longmont, Colorado

I can’t belive how stupid some of these comments are. Can’t people see that massive governmnet regulations and over taxing business is killing us along with the huge debt Obama has created with is failed stimulas and creation for these regulating departments. Do you watch reports about schools that are flurishing in the Bronx when the administrators get out of the way? It’s the same thing with government. Of course, those who work for the govenment and rely pensions funded by tax payers love this kind of policy. It’s about time that poeple start looking at reality or we’ll soon become the next Europe.

This forum just gets a bunch of left wing liberal comments. It’s obvious none of you know what you are talking about. Romney has lots of good ideas on how to get the economy going again.
    1. Lowering taxes for the job creators and investors so they can use their profits to hire more workers
    2. Get the government out of the business of social programs: End government sponsored social security and turn it over to private companies to manage. Get rid of Medicare and let the private for profit medical system handle health care
    3. Pour more money into defending our nation: building more aircraft carriers, ;nuclear submarines and jet fighters. Expanding military bases around the world so we are always ready for any threat.

If Romney really cares about American workers he should go to Boehner and say Where are the jobs? He should tell Boehner and Cantor to get off their asses and pass President Obama’s jobs bill. Obviously, Mitt Romney doesn’t really care about American workers, he wants the economy to go down the tubes so he can continue to blame President Obama. President Obama sent a jobs bill to congress last year and congress still has not passed it and we know why.

A big reason the “46 million people are living below the poverty level” is that while corporations enjoy record profits and the wealthy continue to make mega-bucks on Wall St. neither is paying down those riches to their employees. They’re hording cash and not creating new jobs. And all that Romney and the GOP want to do is reduce their taxes and eliminate the minimum wage. Go figure…

Romney: Fixing U.S. economy a moral imperative

Updated 55m ago
WASHINGTON (AP) – Accusing his rival of a failure of “tragic proportion,” Republican Mitt Romney charged Thursday that the nation under President Obama has failed to keep its “moral commitment to help every American help himself.”

Casting the need to fix the U.S. economy as a moral imperative — but without offering any new proposals — Romney said free enterprise ideas and less government intrusion would help spur a rebound.
“It has become clear that this president simply doesn’t understand or appreciate these fundamental truths of our economic system. Over the last three and a half years, record numbers of Americans have lost their jobs or just disappeared from the workforce or could only find part-time jobs,” Romney said, reading from a teleprompter. “Record numbers of Americans are living in poverty today — over 46 million people in this country, living below the poverty line.”
That, he said, was unacceptable.
“This is not just a failure of policy. It is a moral failure of tragic proportion. Our government has a moral commitment to help every American help himself,” the likely Republican presidential nominee said to applause at a Missouri business that builds military tents. “And that that commitment has been broken.”
Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said Romney delivered a “dishonest” speech that offered no new ideas to help the economy.
“Mitt Romney has promised to use his experience to turn around the economy, but all he has offered to date are negative and dishonest speeches tearing down President Obama,” Smith said.
Romney is correct when he refers to the absolute number of 46 million people living in poverty. The Census Bureau reported last September that the ranks of the nation’s poor had swelled to a record 46.2 million, or nearly 1 in 6 Americans, as a result of the economic downturn that left millions of people struggling or without jobs and turning to the government for assistance.
Many of the job losses, however, occurred before Obama took office or in the early months of his administration and before his economic policies could be put into place.
Romney also didn’t lay out any proposals to help those in poverty. Instead, he said an economy with fewer regulations would add jobs more quickly than the mere 69,000 that were added in May. Since averaging a healthy 252,000 jobs a month from December through February, job growth has slowed to a lackluster average of 96,000 a month. Romney blamed the man he expects to face in the Nov. 6 election.
“President Obama’s vision is very different and deeply flawed. … There is nothing morally right about trying to turn government dependence into a substitute for the dignity of hard work,” he said.
Unemployment rose to 8.2 in May, up from 8.1 the previous month, and stands to be a drag on Obama’ re-election bid. While the economy has improved since Obama took office in January 2009, recent economic reports provide little reason to celebrate. Romney has been dogged about blaming Obama for the economy although instant turnarounds are impossible and factors beyond a president’s control often come into play.
“You see, for three and a half years, President Obama has expanded government instead of empowering the American people. He’s put us deeper in debt. He’s slowed the recovery, harmed the economy,” Romney said. “And he has attacked the cornerstone of American prosperity: our economic freedom.”

Scheiber: Romney’s Claim About My Book Is ‘False’

Scheiber: Romney’s Claim About My Book Is ‘False’

Sahil Kapur 10522

The author of a book documenting the White House’s policy making strategy, cited multiple times by GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, says the former Massachusetts governor is using the book to dishonestly accuse President Obama of intentionally harming the economy.
“That is false, in a variety of ways. I don’t believe that it’s substantively true,” Noam Scheiber, author of The Escape Artists, told TPM by phone Thursday morning.
On Wednesday Romney said President Obama and his aides believed the health care reform law would harm the recovery but pushed for it anyway, and sourced the argument to Scheiber’s book. But the claim is not true.
“There are a couple of claims wound up together there in Romney’s remarks,” Scheiber said. “One claim is that [Obama’s team] knew that the Affordable Care Act itself — something about the Act — would derail the recovery…. They do not believe that it’s substantively true. So it’s not something that they felt, and it’s not something I argue in the book.”
At a campaign appearance in San Antonio, TX, Romney told attendees that “a book that was written in a way that’s apparently pro-President Obama, was written by a guy named Noam Scheiber. And in this book he says that there was a discussion about the fact that Obamacare would slow down the economic recovery in this country and they knew that before they passed it. But they concluded that we would all forget how long the recovery took once it had happened, so they decided to go ahead. The idea that they knowingly slowed down our recovery in order to put in place Obamacare, which they wanted and they considered historic but the American people did not want or consider historic, is something which I think deserves a lot of explaining, because I think the President’s responsibility is to put people back to work.”
That’s a gross oversimplification of the reality, says Scheiber.
“Romney’s imputing one big claim that I just do not make and that I just do not believe to be true,” he said. “Which is that there’s something substantively, sort of intrinsically about the Affordable Care Act that would derail the recovery. That, I personally don’t believe, and I don’t believe they believe it. The only argument I make in the book is an opportunity cost argument — that they deprived themselves of capital and time and space to do more stimulus.”
There is, however, a “kernel of truth” to the interpretation, Scheiber said, explaining that he believes, as many of the administration’s critics do, that Obama should have focused on more economic stimulus before moving to health care. The administration’s plan was to finish up the bill by the fall of 2009 and then return to the economy for a second stimulus — that prospect was quashed by the time the bill was finally enacted in March 2010. A Romney spokesperson, reached for comment, noted that in the book, Obama’s top adviser Larry Summers says he would have supported the health care bill anyway because of its historical import.
More broadly, Obama’s aides at the time did not believe the push would inhibit future economic stimulus, let alone that the bill itself would negatively impact the economy.
“So they’re clearly misrepresenting something that I wrote,” Scheiber said, pointing out that Romney has made a similar claim before and he has corrected the record. “By this point they’re clearly aware that they’re not capturing the full nuance of the argument. … I think it’s hard to believe that he’s not aware of it or the campaign’s not aware of it.”
